Ek Mattias, Dr.
Please give us a personal quote or a quote of a famous person (e.g. of Albert Einstein) that describes you and your life/work.
“Astronomy compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from this world to another.” (Plato)
Please describe your job in only one sentence and tell us what the most important goal of this work is.
I try to constrain the processes occurring in the early solar nebula by studying the isotopic signature of palladium in different meteorites.
How did you get into this research/work field?
In my first geochemistry class at university we had to review a scientific paper. Having always been fascinated by space, I picked an article on the evolution of the moon and the rest, as they say, is history.
What would be the greatest discovery you would like to see in your life time?
Colonisation of other planets/moons.
You work for the NCCR PlanetS. What do you think will the NCCR enable you to do you couldn’t do without it?
I think there are many problems that can only be solved by a multidisciplinary approach. PlanetS not only helps bring different disciplines together but also encourages us to think about how our work could be useful for other disciplines.
