Please describe your job in only one sentence and tell us what the most important goal of this work is.
My work is the large-scale analysis of interplanetary data collected by different instruments (e.g. OSIRIS/BELA) on board spacecrafts during space exploration missions. This includes physical and numerical simulations, remote sensing, data dimensionality reduction and visualization, machine learning, high performance computing and optimization techniques.

How did you get into this research/work field?
During my Ph.D I worked with oncologists and neuroscientists on large-scale cancer data analysis for early diagnosis of cancer disease. However, the last months of my Ph.D I had a short collaboration with the ESA GAIA mission, what stimulated enormously my interest for space research.

What would be the greatest discovery you would like to see in your life time?
To me, there is a major discovery I’d like to see during my lifetime: the trustable detection and confirmation of the gravitational waves predicted by A. Einstein’s work.

You work for the NCCR PlanetS. What do you think will the NCCR enable you to do you couldn’t do without it?
NCCR PlanetS mainly allows me to be in contact with very well-known scientists and the access to cutting-edge resources provided by important projects in the field of space research. Combining these components in a suitable way is primordial to accelerate and inspire my daily work.
