SIPS logo call for ideas
Thank you for your interest in proposing an idea for the SIPS logo. Here are a few guidelines on what the logo design must feature or not, and a few “rules” for this call.
Logo guidelines
- The logo must feature the SIPS acronym.
- You must submit two drawings of the logo, with a version including the full name of the institute: Swiss Institute of Planetary Sciences
- The logo should either, and ideally both:
- Include one or more elements inherited from the PlanetS logo design (either in shapes, fonts or colours).
- Include one or more elements evoking Switzerland. Note that the national flag can be included but the coat of arms of Switzerland use is forbidden by law.
- The logo should include one or more elements evoking planetary science. It should tend to encompass all of it and not only one of its sub-fields.
- The logo must include a maximum of 3 colours. This includes the white elements of the design (please clearly indicate them). Unless otherwise specified, a white background colour will be considered transparent and will not count in the 3 colours.
- The logo design should still work if recoloured in a single colour for specific uses, and if used on clear or dark background.
- The logo cannot include elements referring a specific member school or their city (e.g., the waterjet for Geneva, the bear of Bern, etc.). This is not allowed even if the 4 current schools are equally represented (we want the design to be independent of potential future evolution of SIPS’ composition).
- The proportions of the logo should be landscape and cannot be portrait. Square proportions can be tolerated but are not favoured.
Call “rules”
- Each participant may submit only a maximum of 2 designs (if we receive more than 2, we will only consider the first 2 submitted). Designs should consist of a sketch of the proposed logo, and a copy of it annotated to indicate clearly the various elements composing it. It can be scans of sketches on paper, or digital sketches.
- Entries not complying with the logo guidelines will not be considered.
- If there are too many entries, the communication team of the NCCR PlanetS will do a first selection to reduce the number of entries to a manageable number for the next steps of the process.
- The entries moving to the next step will be turned into digital drafts by Thibaut Roger to provide a fair representation independent of the proposer’s digital design skills.
- The digital versions of the selected entries will be presented at the General Assembly (9-11 April 2024) of the NCCR PlanetS to collect the opinion of the members and associates on their favoured designs.
- The final selected design and its creator will be acknowledged on the “About us” page of the future SIPS website.
- The Executive Board of PlanetS will keep a veto on the final choice of the logo representing SIPS.
- At least one and up to three designs will be selected for further development and refinement by a professional graphic designer. By entering this call, you are thereby aware your design might get altered in the future, without the need for your consent.
- If you have any further questions, please contact the communication team.
