As a member of PlanetS you are already booked to spend some time in the Bernese Oberland at the end of January 2016.
The next General Assembly will take place from January 25th to 27th, 2016 in Grindelwald. «It’s a central location that everybody can reach within reasonable time,» Yann Alibert, science officer of the NCCR PlanetS, explains the choice. From Zurich it takes about 2 h 40 min by train to travel to the well-known destination for winter sports, from Geneva it’s a 3 h 20 min train ride whereas the Bernese people will be there in just 1 h 35 min.
Grindelwald is famous for its scenic mountain view. The village is situated at the foot of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The around 100 members and associates of PlanetS will stay at the Sunstar Alpine Hotel. «It was not easy to find enough rooms for so many people,» says Yann Alibert. Some of the hotels project assistant Janine Jungo contacted were already booked, others didn’t fit into the budget. «The Sunstar looks nice and there are seminar rooms big enough for us,» says Janine Jungo.
The scientific program for the meeting isn’t set yet but according to Yann Alibert this time the young researchers will play the main part presenting their results and ideas. The organizers are confident that advisory board members Michel Mayor and Brian Schmidt again will join the meeting. As for the fun part, there are rumors that there could be a band of PlanetS InsiderS. Do you know more about it? (bva)
