Editorial
Dear PlanetS colleagues,
Like for the first 3 editions, the 4th General Assembly of our NCCR in Grindelwald was a success with interesting presentations and workshops, lively discussions, and the renewed friendly ambiance between the participants. For the first time, however, the young members of PlanetS raised some worries about their future, especially in what concerns the availability of fixed positions after the doctorate or a postdoc period. You will read in this issue of the InsiderS about the organisation of research, and the creation and rules of allocation of fixed positions in Switzerland, rules that are mainly under the responsibility of the local institutions (universities, institutes of technology) and not under the authority of the NCCR.
We also will come back on some of the highlights of the Assembly and in particular discover the best ideas that were suggested during the tinkering workshop, or know about the first winner of the poster competition inaugurated this year. The year 2018 will mark the beginning of the second phase of PlanetS and we all hope that it will be as fruitful and rewarding as the one we have just experienced.
