Water during planet formation and evolution
In an interdisciplinary workshop, 50 participants will discuss about the effects of water on planets at the Irchel Campus of the University of Zurich from 12–16 February 2018. The registration deadline is 15 November 2017. Hurry up for a last-minute chance.

„This workshop is a bottom-up initiative of young PlanetS researchers, supported by some of the professors,“ says Joanna Drazkowska. She organises the workshop together with Tim Lichtenberg, Caroline Dorn and Julia Venturini. “This is an interdisciplinary workshop, at the frontier between planetary science, astronomy and earth sciences, so we aim for a good mixture between review and in-depth talks and discussion,” the organisers write. They managed to compile an impressive list of confirmed international speakers from the US, Europe and Japan.
The workshop will focus on processes governing the delivery of water to planetary bodies in solar and exoplanetary systems, during their formation and long-term evolution. The respective roles of water (ice) inheritance from the interstellar medium, condensation in the protoplanetary nebula and processing and delivery during accretion will be discussed. “We will further consider in detail the implications of the late-stage impact phase and long-term consequences for the remarkable diversity of processes affecting the water budget during the evolution of a planetary body,” the organisers write: “The goal of the workshop is to critically assess the interplay of theory and observations/experiments on the effects of water on planets and establish new research directions.”
