LAPIS

LAPIS – Laboratory for Analysis of Planetary and Interplanetary Data Sets

Our aim is to set up a lab. for the exploitation of large data sets from interplanetary missions by providing: 1) Fast access, 2) Generic tools for analysis of data, 3) Computer-aided modelling tools for scientific interpretation, 4) Guidance to local students and the community on specific data sets and their exploitation.

Our initial work revolves around two main sub-projects.

1. CaSSIS – the camera for the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter

2. OSIRIS – the camera on Rosetta

CaSSIS

The PIG team in Bern is the scientific and technical lead for the CaSSIS experiment on ExoMars TGO. The mission is due to launch in January 2016. The Bern hardware team is currently working flat-out to meet this launch date. Within the NCCR, we are preparing to support the acquisition, reduction, and archiving of the data. Our aims here are

OSIRIS

The PIG team is a major participant in the OSIRIS imaging system for Rosetta. We are funded to perform numerical modelling of gas outflow from the comet nucleus through our normal SNSF grant. However, the NCCR is giving us the chance to enhance significantly our capabilities of data visualization and database manipulation.
