Please give us a personal quote or a quote of a famous person (e.g. of Albert Einstein) that describes you and your life/work.
“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” — Carl Sagan
Please describe your job in only one sentence and tell us what the most important goal of this work is.
Building theoretical models to understand the link between the atmosphere, the interior structure, and the formation process of giant planets. Ultimately, we want to understand how (giant) planets form, evolve, and what they are made out of.
How did you get into this research/work field?
When I was 14 years old, during a long boring bus ride, I bought a magazine (Geo Kompakt) about the nature of time and space. I read the entire magazine in one go (making the bus trip considerably less boring). I was fascinated by the idea that time is relative. It just blew my mind. From that point on, I knew I want to become a physicist.
What would be the greatest discovery you would like to see in your life time?
Intelligent extraterrestrial life.
You work for the NCCR PlanetS. What do you think will the NCCR enable you to do you couldn’t do without it?
Collaborating and meeting amazing researchers, all working to deepen our understanding of planets.
