Please describe your job in only one sentence and tell us what the most important goal of this work is.
I work on the RACE-GO project: Direct/high-contrast imaging (or active coronagraphy) of exoplanets at the 4-m-telescope in the DAG observatory, Turkey using SLMs (liquid crystals) within the near-infrared PLACID instrument.
How did you get into this research/work field?
Reading astronomy books as a kid – but regarding my current research topics, I was inspired by the discoveries of the Kepler Space telescope, when a new exoplanet was found almost every week!
What would be the greatest discovery you would like to see in your life time?
The discovery of a habitable terrestrial planet or extraterrestrial life, ideally both!
You work for the NCCR PlanetS. What do you think will the NCCR enable you to do you couldn’t do without it?
PlanetS enables a close partnership within the planetary science community of Swiss universities, acting as a platform of cooperation on scientific projects as well as establishing a unique opportunity for young scientists like me to interact and exchange on a vast variety of topics within the field!
